Heater blower from time to time just wouldn't work  all the controls lit up but no heat , so my mechanic changed the FS Resistor  thought it cured the problem but yesterday nothing all day  and it was freezing  outside  seems to pick the coldest days to stop  like on purpose , is the next step to remove the entire dash and replace the blower  or anyone got any tips
  thanks  Colin ..

I would be more inclined to suspect the climate control unit or a bad connection somewhere than the actual blower motor.
I would remove the climate control unit and spray the plug in connections (electrical contact cleaner, Not WD40) leave them to dry then re fit then a few minutes later, as a first attempt at sorting the problem.
As the motor is a pain to swap out I would try other options first.

Colin, stupid question but I'm not 100% sure weather you mean the blower motor isn't spinning or sometimes your getting no heat

fan not spinning  so no heat coming through to the vents

Long shot but the old E30 tended to suffer this sort of problem, mostly age related where the bush bearings in the heater motor had dried out and people sprayed them with oil, WD40/machine oil that sort of thing and it seemed to have lasting effect. Not sure if you can see the bearings when you remove the bulkhead cover and look in through the two air inlet holes, maybe with long spray nozzle attached to the spray can. From memory when you look through them holes you can see the blower fans. Just thinking out loud
