Hi all

You may or may not be aware that although there wasn't a budget in March guess what?

That's right the cost of the road tax has gone up for cars registered between 2001 to 2017 and for my 2013 which is band M it's increased from £535 to £555 

And for those in band K it's now £315

Oh well it must be going to a good cause with all that road maintenance that is now required for the potholes.

Someone at work calculated that the extra amount the central government had allocated to our local authority came to £100k for potholes.....erm >:(

No wonder the motor industry does so much ‘normal’ testing on UK Roads now.  Far cheaper than a test track and lots of choice 

Don’t mention potholes. We hit one last night in my wife’s Cooper S, and the run flat tyre exploded on impact. Will have to get it in to Mini to inspect for further damage.

Hi Rich and anyone thats hit a pothole with damaging results. You need to take a picture of the pothole with something to scale against the picture right away. In an ideal world a ruler or tape measure.
The councils have a habit of doing quick repairs to avoid compensation.

As even motorways are crumbling, it gets a bit of a challenge to stop and measure the holes  )

I am waiting to be stopped by police for weaving all over the roads at the moment as I spend more time in the middle than on my own side. Am ready for a frank discussion if stopped though.

Just been reading Auto Express and they suggest the following:

“If all of these changes seem daunting, they won't affect a car that has already been registered and is liable to annual road tax. None of these new tax rates are backdated, so they will only apply to new cars, so your current car will cost the same in road tax for the rest of its serviceable life, including if you put it back on the road after making a SORN (Statutory Off-Road Notification) declaration.”

I’m not sure it’s therefore a back-dated tax?

Oh, and don’t get me started on potholes.

I think it’s an absolute disgrace the way current potholes are filled not once, twice or three times but constantly.

Do the job right first time and you’ll only fix them now and then however the policy of throwing. a load of shit in the hole simply doesn’t work and bingo.....two months later you have more rubble and a hole again.

Horsham council (and others) should be ashamed of themselves!

They can also get away with it if they weren’t informed and therefore ‘aware’.  Of course proving that they were ‘aware’ can itself be a problem, and Councils also have 3 months to respond you your claim.  If it has white markings around it then there is a very good chance that they were aware.

But definitely take an image ASAP and as said here, use a ruler/tape measure at the time.  Do not risk your life doing it though!

Most councils have access to a machine that is supposed to repair the poholes quickly and efficiently.

Can I do this mods? If not sorry and understood.

As mentioned by fellow members the quaity of the repair is extremely poor. I have often wondered does it pay somebody to keep repairing an ever widening hole.

How on earth a pothole can be repaired so quickly and badly is beyond me. I can only imagine the great unwashed drive the machine. breakfast pothole. Read the sun. Pothole. Burp pothole.

Indeed they do, in our village we phone up and make a claim and they will send out a claim form. We then ignore the claim form and carry on having woken to discover pot hole filled within the next 24 hours. I’m sure they will work it out one day but in the mean time we all enjoy less potholes around us.
