Hi all new member here with question , I have 2008 x5 3.0d has an annoying whistling noise that seams to be coming from back of engine to the left when you look in from the front , is this were the ccv is located and is it a hard job to replace

Changing your flag to the Union Jack won't help

Hi thanks for reply , it only happens in slow driving through town when I accelerate or lift foot off pedal , it actually sounds like a police siren

I put a plastic glove over the dipstick hole and it filled with air , it sounds as if it is coming from the back of engine on the left side , it seems to go at around 1500 to 2000 revs when driving

If it's crankcase pressure I would be wary of it blowing the seals out in the turbo and you having a " Runaway"
Have you tried it with the oil filler cap off ?
Could be a cracked manifold , or head / gasket.
Try removing the top plastic engine cover, as the crankcase breather is under there as is the inlet manifold .

Yes I tried filler cap and it didn't blow it up or suck it in , it's not taking oil or water . I had cover off and filter housing out i could see nothing out of the ordinary . It's definitely coming from behind turbo towards back of engine

Hi , no not yet. I have been under car with someone working accelerator and can't seem to find the cause , nearly certain it's not from turbo but possibly a split hose .not much room to see anything , no loss in power or smoke at rear

Yea mine is the same . No loss of power no smoke .. it's driving me nuts .. I have got 4 glow plugs out at the moment . The car is going back in next week under warranty to sort them and Iv told them to sort the siren noise as well .. the strange thing is with mine is it only started when I had a service done about a month ago .. I will update when I get the car back
Thanks

Mine does the same, sounds like a supercharger!
Is it the same it hot and cold weather?
Mine does it when the outside is below 20degrees, and you’ve just started engine. Also does it if you let engine cool a little and re start and set off.
Only thing I can think it is is a dry bearing as it disappeared after 10 seconds of driving, letting off the throttle also makes it stop.
Doesn’t sound like a turbo whistle or leak, sounds supercharge like

Google secondary air pump bearing.
Just a thought as it's used to reduce emissions until the cat warms up, so could be a possibility.
Also mine on the 3.0d X3 was noticeable , but not intrusive when cold
