Cheap carbon

Post by RichM50d » Wed Mar 07, 2018 9:43 pm

I’ve been looking at the BMW carbon kit for my car. The fitted price for everything is coming in at just under £3k. A few of the guys on the US forum have fitted the Chinese carbon. The cost for the full kit is around £600 shipped, so is a huge saving.

Has anyone here fitted the Chinese stuff? It doesn’t appeal that much, but at that price could be worth a punt. Especially as the most expensive part (front splitter) is likely to get covered in stone chips anyway.

What’s the consensus?

When I had my F80 I ordered some Chinese copy front carbon corners, needless to say the quality was very poor, there were marks in the lacquer and the weave wasn't good. I sent them back for a refund and fitted the genuine BMW Performance items. They were expensive but managed to get a decent discount by shopping around, Cotswold, Benham and eventually matched by my local dealer.

There are some deals to be had on genuine bmw Carbon bits on feebay if you can get someone to fit them.  Personally, I would steer clear on the cheap Chinese stuff. £600 it may be, but if it’s rubbish...

They’ve sent me some close up pics of everything, and the quality looks quite good, in fairness. I just don’t know if I can bring myself to fit it to an £80k car, especially as it’ll leave holes in the bumper if I ever remove it.

I’ve had a word with myself, and the cheap carbon will not be going on my car!

What the hell was I thinking!  :))
