Tyre recommendations

Post by Zedhed » Wed Mar 07, 2018 11:48 am

Hi folks just had a £700 quote for 4 bridgestone runflats, which is way out of our price range at the moment.i beleive these are the only star rated ones.ive heard they need to be star rated to avoid dash lights illuminating.is this correct.

When I was looking for some new rubber recently, there are two camps - those that are star rated only, and those that have non star rated!
A few folks say that as long as all the tyres are the same tread depth it’s ok - I think Toyo were mentioned as one brand that people had run for a while with no problem.

I decided to blow the budget and replace like for like with Michelin Diamaris that were on already, party because I decided to stick with the star rating but also because the previous ones had done loads of miles and I only had to change them because of their age, the tread was ok it was just cracking on the sidewall

You don’t need runflats on an E53.  Standard fit are Michelin Diamaris 19”

i recommend diamaris.
ive had star and non star mixed on mine without issue in 8 years of ownership.
i would say keep the tread depth nearly equal across the axle, but it didnt seam to matter if the tread was vastly different front to back.
i got 40k miles out of a set of fronts!!

My car came with a set of new Prestivo's fitted.
15 months later they are still fitted and i haven't had a problem with them even last week in snow but i am no racing driver.
They don't look if they have any wear on them but they must have some but still like new.

Yes I should have said the old Diamaris had nearly 40k on them and weren’t worn right down, that’s why I stuck with them
