Tyre pressures..

Have ready varying threads on what tyre pressures folks are using on their X6. Mine has the 20 inch wheel staggered set-up (275 fronts and 315 rears). Some say 32psi and some 36psi. Unless I`m going blind couldn`t see a sticker anywhere on the car for what the recommendation is.

Went to check today and mine were at 29psi so cranked them all up to 32 all round and made a huge difference to my mpg.

Drove from Birmingham to Maidenhead today and averaged a shade under 37 mpg which is better considering the same journey i`ve done for work over the past week averaged between 32-34mpg in similar conditions.

So check your tyre pressures regularly  ;)

Sticker should be on the B-pillar inside the driver’s door.  I use 32psi.

Just browsing through the wrong section !!lol
I have a 4.0d E70 X5 and have the same tyre set up as you. I run Dunlop sport maxx runflats and HAD uneven tyre wear before now. First my fronts wore on the outer edges and the rears on the inner edges. Both were noticeable compared to the rest of the tyres. Infact the rears made the Chords on the inner edge but you wouldn't know unless you laid under it at the back as the rest of the tyre looked to have loads of life left in it.

Talking to various garages about Hunter alignment etc, my solution was to increase all pressures to 39psi. Now my fronts are down to 3.5mm across 90% of the total width and the rears are 6mm and looking very even across the width with no noticeable wear on the inner edges. Ive run them like this for the past year nearly.
The MOT was yesterday and i took the chance to inspect the tyres and the underneath in general very carefully (friendly local garage doesn't mind me poking about and even picking up his torch and looking for myself)!!!
i will stick with my 39psi.

The only thing I would add was that mine was very unhappy with high pressures and the transmission started complaining.  Dropped the pressures and the noises stopped again.  ‘*’ rated Pirelli tyres.
