Hi
I am considering upgrading to the new F85 X5M a used car but seen a car but it doesn't have the electrically deployable tow bar, which my current car has.
So my question is can you get BMW or Pf jones to retro fit to the newer X5M an Electrically deployable Tow Bar, like the factory fit option or is it only the manual one ?
I did check their website and can't see if you can

From memory it is possible however the cost of the electric option was huge and simply not worth it.
The manual bar is very easy to use and a two second job to install and remove.

PF Jones don’t offer the electric option either. It seems that variant is factory only as I can’t get the one for the Škoda either - other than from a Dealer with significant wallet drain!

I am in same boat and have discovered that the only cost effective option is a detachable swan neck for around £600 with dedicated electrics.

Hi
I managed to get hold of Bmw on Saturday afternoon and they do both for the X5M and the good news is you can get both from them.
The manual one for approx £1013 plus fitting and the Electric Deployable one for £1423 plus fitting.
The parts guy said the cost of the fitting is dependent on the Vin No as it depends what options are fitted to the car but he estimated somewhere between £500 to £1000.
So the poss total cost could be £2-£2.5k for the electric one.

Amazing how cost differs from dealer to dealer!
£1500 (or close, I can't remember exactly) to fit a manual one to my F15!

Well that doesnt sound a lot different to me : "£1013 plus £500" versus "£1500 or close"...... ???
The "£600" is a lot different but doesnt say its from a dealer?

BMW used to charge a mortgage to add a towbar after market. Even on the E53 it was about £800 at build, or well over £2k afterwards - and that was 14 years ago.

I could be interested in doing a deal on my electric tow bar, as I’ll never use it.
