Possible self levelling issue

Post by lou9890 » Sun Dec 03, 2017 5:01 pm

Hello all

Just seeking some advice please if anyone has any ideas any comments would be appreciated

Earlier today my self levelling warning came up on the dash of my 2009 e70.

Seemed to be ok until I stopped and switched off the engine and could hear a buzzing coming from the front offside.

Sounded like a small motor running. Went on for about 10 seconds then stopped.

Sorry if this has been answered before.

Thank you in advance if your reading.

Lou

The E70 rear air suspension  suffers from the airbags wearing out and leaking.
Usually you will notice that the car starts to sag on one side at the rear when left overnight.
You can use diluted fairy liquid in a spray bottle to identify if this is the case.
The motor noise you heard, could well be the air suspension compressor re inflating the air bags. It's located bellow the drivers seat, under the floor, accessible by removing the underside plastic splash panel.
This is not a diognosis of your problem, only a pointer.
See if the  rear of the car starts to sag overnight.

Thank you for the reply and apologies for the late response I also wanted to ask if the vehicle is left for a couple of days without use will the rear suspension have a lower stance or is this just that the bags have a leaked while the vehicle has been standing.

I measured the height when I parked it up and it is now over an inch lower on both sides at the rear.

Sounds like your rear air bags are leaking.
I had this on my 08 plate X5 and i had the bags replaced. After that no problems...
I dont think there difficult to do, but i had my indie garage do it for me.... I supplied the parts. I seem to remember i used the Arnott bags...
