Steering Rack

Post by WexIan » Mon Nov 27, 2017 3:48 pm

I have a 2014 F25 with 45000 miles on clock and went for a pre MOT test and my garage told me the steering rack is gone and wont pass test  :o. Anyone else have this problem with such low mileage, I have heard that they can go and do BMW still cover it as I am out of warrenty but have 5 year service pack.

I thought that the standard warranty was 3 years?  Is your MOT not due at or before 3 years?

If out of warranty then you can ask BMW for goodwill which they will sometimes give if the car has been serviced by BMW - which if it has an OEM Service Pack it ought to have been.

Thanks. I live in Ireland and our first test is due after 4 years.

I would get a second opinion. I have a clonk on mine at 90k, my mechanic assures me it is the bush at the end of the rack, a common fault on several models which use the same rack.
It has passed two mot test so far, and does not appear to be getting any worse....
Famous last words......
