E53 3.0 D Sport Auto - outside temp readings not right

Hi

Ive started getting spurious outside temp reading (reading too high, by a lot).

I don't recall many spots about this issue in the past - anyone had this?

Is it an easy, (and hopefully cheap) part to locate and replace? Can the issue be related to anything else?

Smee

I thought it was somewhere in the front behind the bumper?

Thank you Richard. Aside of the incorrect reading I assume its standalone, not related to anything else, and there is no impact on anything else by not doing it right now? Other than perhaps the safety element of knowing when you are potentially in for some black ice?

front passenger side wheel arch  there a little trap door    its in there but you need tiny hands.    easier to turn wheel inwards and pull the wheel arch liner away a little and you can see it,  its actually inside another little plastic housing,  twist and pull.. its a black probe with a pointed end  odd looking thing    i pulled mine up and into the engine bay and then located it in a hole in the grill so still gets outside temp  but far easier to get at.

i was trying to fool the webasto into thinking it was cold to try and get it working,  if you unplug you get a dash read of -100c i think  but if you say dunk in ice cube water it read 0 to 2 c    that should tell you if its working
