Gear indicator on instrument cluster

Post by Jet_age_daz » Fri Nov 17, 2017 12:11 pm

Hi Guys, Just bought an late 02 X5 3.0 d sport with a few small issues & hoping some of you kind folk out there may be able to help find the cause & fix for theses,

The first issue is with the gear indicator on the instrument cluster not showing anything, I’ve done a diagnostic test on the cluster that shows the PRND 12345 backlight works fine, I’ve also checked the connections at the gear lever which all seem fine, the indicators at the gear lever light up fine too, so I’m stumped at that!

Second issue is of my own doing, when removing the glove box light the power cables came free of the connector at the light end & then touched off one another shorting out with that dreaded snap noise, so I put the cables back into the connector etc & checked the fuse No 27, to my surprise the fuse was fine but the glove box light wouldn’t work, checked the bulb which was fine so again I’m stumped!

Any help with these problems would be very much appreciated!

Have a look on here as it looks like it could be fuse 42 to me.

Thanks Alan for the reply & info, checked all fuses I thought might have something to do with the glove box light, no blown fuses but the light has started working again, so once again stumped but happy with that result, hoping the gear indicator sorts itself out too
