M Sport 30d (LCI) mapping views

Post by 911X5 » Fri Nov 10, 2017 12:00 pm

Hi all - new to the forum. Picked up a 2012 30d M Sport last week and very happy with it.

I must say that it is a lot quicker on bursts of acceleration than I had imagined - it would give my 911 a run for its money at speeds under 70mph!

I was thinking of getting it chipped and would like to hear some views on whether it is worth it - i.e. does it make much real-world difference?

You have one of those new fangled X5's, but I chipped my old girl with a local garage and the difference is like chalk n cheese. Give her the loud pedal and she doesn't half go off on a gallop!

There is a guy on here called Jason that offers a chipping service and I guess he would be the best person to ask about the performance differences

Well its good to know that a chip does make a noticable difference!

I used to have an Impreza about 10 years ago and had it chipped (uprated ECU) - I swear it made no difference that could be felt, so am trying to gauge whether its worth it on the 30d!

Jason@bwchiptune is on here and well known and trusted.  He can do you a custom map tailored to what you want  :)

Based in W London but has a system he can send out though I believe the DDE has to come off the car as BMW have locked it to prevent changes on the car.

If under BMW warranty then beware. They can spot maps and will walk away.

Send Jason a PM and he’ll tell you what your options are  8)

I am in the same boat can’t decide wether to get mine done! The gains I think are big but basically means you can’t take it back to bmw as if you do and they plug the thing in the map will be lost. Then mine has done 80k nearly now so worried what it will do to the transmission and diff with a few moles on it !?!
Will a 500 quid map wreck the clutch or box with all that extra torque ?

Jason will not give you a map that exceeds the torque limits of the gearbox and diffs.  His business is going to depend upon keeping cars intact...  8)

Good point mate !

What about 80k would this be an issue ?

I was considering evolve they have tuned my e46 m3 and run their carbon air box and apparently good with bmw diesel tuning also anyone used them ?

Mine (on a E53) was done at 90K+, however I didn't know my gearbox was on its last legs and needed a refurb. However it was gonna lunch itself anyway, the extra power didn't help.

Like X5Sport said, these guys are in the business of wrecking their customers cars, sort of bad news.

I haven't used Jason, a lot of others on here have. Go for a reputable company and you'll do alright. Obvs you guys are on a newer model than mine so I haven't got a clue what power gains you will receive, but you should be informed of the BHP and Torque increase before hand. MPG wont be increased, or it'll be marginal, and for god's sake inform your insurance company(but obvs this is a fuel consumption mod!)

What's everyones view on Racechips? Seemingly reputable company and offer solutions where you don't actually have to actually remap the ECU, just have a chip that you can remove before going to BMW for work. Personally we don't have a BMW warranty so this isn't a concern, but have the feeling they removed the previous map from the car, as they mentioned it at a service.
