F15 40d v 50d

Hi guys
Anybody able to share any experience between these 2 engine outputs on the F15.
I've experienced the difference between a 30d (e53) and a 40d (x6) and without question I would only buy a 40d going forwards on any future X model I consider.
What I need some help with is it worth paying the extra for the 50d, if the car is mainly going to be used for local driving over a 40d model?
And just to twist things further, am I going to be left lacking power with a 40e model?
Cheers
Max

I don't know about a 50d but I moved to a 40e from an E61 M5 & have found the performance fine;the electric motor is great for moving off & it helps the ICE at high speeds.

I don't have experience of the 40e but I bought the 50d after test driving a 30d.
There is quite a big jump in price between the 40 and 50 but discounts available are also much higher. The engine is a peach and easily matched my 335d I had previously despite the extra weight.
The only thing I would say is that for around town driving I think you'd notice little difference since the third 50d turbo doesn't cut in until later in the rev/power range.
Go try them - it's where all the fun is!

I'm afraid I can't shine much light on your question either. I have owned a 35d E70 (2 turbos) a F15 30d (1 turbo) and now a f15 50d (3 turbos).
I can honestly say that when I moved from the 35d to the 30d I felt that the 30d was at least as fast if not faster. The newer model was simply better in that sense. I never at any stage in the 3 years I had it think "this is a bit slow", there was always plenty of power available for overtakes, though I would as a matter of course stick it in "Sport" and nudge the gear lever to the left if I was overtaking on non dual carriageway roads.
I went for the 50d after 3 years because I wanted something where I would notice the difference and not feel I was just in the same car as before. Also, there were (and maybe still are) some great discounts on the 50d to be had.
If you are just doing local driving then frankly you don't need more than a 30d. I would expect that the 40e would in fact feel nippier because the electric motor delivers its power instantly. There is of course a lot of difference between what you need and what you want....

Thanks for the replies chaps.
I should have said it will be a used model that I will be looking at between £30-40k spend. Looking at cars available they all 40d, 50d, 40e seem to be available within budget, it's just a question of which one :bangin:
It seems not many favour the 30d in a F15, is that because they feel it a bit sluggish/slow?

50d if you can, it has the power on tap when needed, superb engine. Third turbo does kick in at 3500 revs
