Gearbox oil

Post by BigRick » Wed Nov 08, 2017 8:27 am

I’m doing an oil change on my ‘53 auto gearbox. My question is about the oil. It’s the 5speed GM box. Now I get 50% discount on GM oils. So what oil am I looking for? Is there a certain spec or is it just auto gearbox oil? Thanks

This might help.

Slide from Realoem.  Lists ATF1 as well.....

There is often a label on the gearbox as well.  Remember to follow the correct change procedure.  It isn’t a drain and refill job.  You need the car level, in the air, engine running once partly filled, at the correct temperature and cycle the gears, then recheck the level and top up.
