2003 X5 - PDC

Post by Markyd74 » Sun Oct 29, 2017 6:07 am

Morning all,

My beeps aren’t working!!!!  - reverse engaged bleep and flashing pdc button but no beeps?

Could this be as simple as sensors?

Cheers
Mark

Hi

Ideally a code reader would really help, brim sure there is a post on e53 section if you do a search and put your hand in front of the sensors and you can feel them pulse slightly, where they aren't working they don't send out a pulse

If you have just washed the car and use a hose or pressure washer water could have got in and just needs to dry out a bit I used to find.

Ive never tried the 'feel them pulsing thing' so can't comment but if you get down close to them you can hear them click if they are working. As mentioned already a scanner will pick it up. The sensors are fairly cheap on eBay at around a tenner. I usually keep a spare front a rear one for when it happens (which is fairly rare to be honest). And as also mentioned, het washing and hosing can also cause the issue as can dirt across the sensor. best to wipe rather that rinse.

Thanks for your advice.

So far I’ve wiped clean and carried out the ‘listening test’ and confident all sensors are clicking at rear.
IF the PDC has a fault and a sensor was replaced but the error code not deleted would this system still disable even though a new sensor had been fitted...?

Also, if the front has a problem would it also disable PDC?

As a general rule of thumb, you need to clear error codes after fix. If you haven't got a code reader I think disconnecting the + and - from battery and touching them together will reset. Someone with more knowledge on this may confirm

Latest - all 4 still clicking okay - the front 4 no sound at all!??

Next step - replace all 4 or take it into a garage for £28 and see what they come up with?

Can you take 1 out from the rear and swap a front 1 and see if it click's.
Reason for this is to see if it works in the front and they have not been turned off as you can turn the front ones off and somebody might have done so.
Also strange for all 4 to go down.
Another thing it could be id a bit of corrosion on the pin's in the plugs but unplugging them and a squirt of contact cleaner will sort that out.

If it's one of the inner one's then get a good grip on it and pull not a bumper off job.

Alan,

It is one of the inners, how is it accessible...noticed a plastic clip to the left which looks as though you can remove by a screw driver?

Have a look at this advert it is the holder.
You can see the metal clips they are spring type and just pull/prise out.
You don't need to take anything off the bumper.
