Hi everyone, i am Paul and on saturday i am going to look at a 2011 X5 40d. I have owned just about every make of car and 4x4 made but never an x5. I am a landrover man at heart but have become a bit disappointed with their latest offerings and customer relations. I have just sold my discovery4 so the X5 will be a different beast altogether

Is there anything special to look out for on the x5?

its a 2011 40d
FSH with 80000+miles
comfort seats???
360 camera
front bumper cameras
speed limit info??
high beam assist
adaptive headlights

Not sure what else its got. Hope its a nice one as i am quite looking forward to trying something new

Paul

Hello and :hi:

If you can get hold of the last 7 characters of the VIN then you can get the factory spec from bmwvin on line.

There is an E70 buyers guide on the Forum which might help, but otherwise the E70 crew will be along to answer other questions  :D

Hi and welcome Paul
You'll love the X5. The only thing special to look out for is sppeed camaras ;)

Hi and welcome to the forum.

As X5Sport said have a read of the buyers guide will help.

Remember to check the electrics windows, mirrors, pan roof, as well as usual car checks. Some have had water ingress via blocked vents in scuttle so just in case worth checking from footwells. Also tyres are worth checking esp the inside edges as the outside wear a lot less and a set of runflats are circa £1000 and matching sets of tyres are best as it's 4wd.

Also being th 40d is should be a 8 speed facelift which is called is LCI, and comfort seats are a plus and sort after, head up display is a rare option. The later car will have the improved sat nav/ info media set up.

Look out for excessive stone chipping on the lower rear doors and rear part of the sill and rear arches due to the wide tyres esp on the M Sport variant, the solution was repaint and fitment of plastic protection film to the lower rear doornsill and arches.

The M Sport diamond cut Wheels are prone to corroding, some are repainted all silver or black but some occurred when fairly new i.e. With 2 years of being registered and BMW replaced under warranty, but cost of a refurb back to diamond cut is more than just painting them.

Some members have had a prob with the front diff and some replaced by BMW so worth checking and if affected by it, if you do a search on here X5Sport did a post about the  recall a while back.

If you are after a certain spec say heated steering wheel it's easier and definitely cheaper to find a car with it on than trying to retro fit parts on the E70.

Thanks for the advice guys 8). Spoke to the seller today and he has fitted a brand new paddle shift wheel but has yet to get it working so not sure if thats something thats easily sorted (spiral cassette/coding etc?) If not he still has the original as well. Will get to check it out soon  :)

I have paddle shift and I can honestly say that I don't use it quite happy to let the car do the hard work .

I know what you mean Glen. Had them on my old range rover vogue 4.4tdv8 and hardly ever used them. But if they are there i would like to get them working if possible

Deal done today, i am now the owner of a 2011 X5 40d m sport in (i think) deep sea blue. Just driven it back from Warwick and very happy with it, just got to swot up on the owners handbook and figure out how everything works

One quick question- is there anyway of adding a digital speedo to the display. On our mini, if you scroll through the computer readouts you can get a digital speedo and its really handy
Thanks
Paul

Looks very good.  Good to see a different colour than Black/Grey or Silver which seem to be so popular.  I do like that Blue  :)

Looking at that you have a good spec.  Not much missing from the ‘toys’ list.  I can only think of a couple, HUD and multi-zone climate Control.

HUD is one of those things that you don't need, but once you have it you will want it again. I'm on my third X5 and first with HUD. I'd definitely spec it next time.
