Hi all,
I've been looking at swapping my door puddle lights to the type that project a logo onto the floor. There is a choice - genuine BMW or the China option.
I thought the BMW option meant a £65 part, with a new LED light unit and a set of logo "slides", but the online BMW retrofitting parts selector is telling me I only need the slides themselves, suggesting my car has the LED projector type lamp to begin with.
- note the option for part 1, the complete set including the light doesn't come up.
The thing is, if you buy the whole kit, you get the option of fitting one of four different logo slides, and fit the one you choose. But if you buy the slides only, the following message comes up on the screen -
"IMPORTANT NOTICE: This product is for installation by trained technicians and not by an end user. Installation must be performed exclusively by a specialist workshop."
This seems a bit odd, seeing as it's exactly the same part if you buy the whole kit.
So, if I stop rambling, I think I'm asking if anyone has any experience of fitting this type of light?
Also, seeing as the official line is that it must be fitted by BMW, does anyone have access to the official instructions for fitting? The part number is 63312413539
Cheers,
MarkP

Re: LED Door Projector Lights
Hi
I originally boughtsome off eBay a set of four and cheap but had to start modifying the units to fit the holes as aut was a pattern part.
So gave up and order the BMW ones although they come in pairs and are expensive they fitted in about 15 mins for all four and you can change the lens / picture it projects.
So for me the boriginal bmw route was the best.

Re: LED Door Projector Lights
Thanks for the replies guys.
Glen, those look good. I'd had a look at a few on eBay, but I'd struggled to find any that were definitely compatible with the F16.
Graeme, because of the compatibility doubt, that was directing me towards the genuine BMW part. The odd thing was, the new spare parts selector on the BMW website was indicating to me that I only needed the lenses, not the light itself, suggesting that my car already has the correct lamp type already fitted.
Even odder was the fact that it suggested that the lenses needed to be fitted by a specialist, when you can clearly do it yourself if you buy the full lamp option. - Having fitted them, can you say if there's anything difficult about swapping the lens options over? I'm wondering if mine might have the correct lamp type but maybe needs a modification to fit a removable lens?
I don't have access to my car until tomorrow, so I'm going to have a look then to see if I can get to the bottom of it. I'll see if I can see if a) it's an LED type, and b) if there's anywhere a lens might go.
Cheers,
