Advice Needed - Before Tomorrow Morning?!?

Post by Sit » Wed Oct 04, 2017 6:11 pm

Ok so following on from my previous threads I have today confirmed a deal on a Carbon Black 2010 X5 3.0d M Sport which is pre-LCI in the most part although has the newer sat nav and iDrive systems fitted. Its very well specced with individual leather and some nice options, its a 3 owner car with a full BMW service history and has covered 80,000 miles, it is being sold through BMW AUC so comes with warranty roadside assistance etc.

They have today taken £1000.00 deposit to remove it from sale, the salesman will call me on Friday to finalise the deal.

On checking BMW Used tonight to see if the car was still on there I find that another  dealer have advertised a Silver 2011 X% 3.0d M Sport which is LCI with some nice options - powered boot, comfort seats, 333M alloys, reverse camera, third row seats (which I don't need) again its via BMW AUC so comes with all same features and benefits however it has covered 89,000 miles but is £1750 cheaper.

I am in a quandary what to do, I wouldn't go out and buy a silver car with black leather which is a big indicator but I don't know how much of a benefit the car being LCI is worth? Both are well specced however I don't need 7 seats so thats of no value to me although powered boot and comfort seats appeal.

Can anyone give me some advice, I believe that I can get my deposit back from dealer if I need to. I probably shouldn't have looked - fatal game!!!!

Try getting them to get that car for you, and use the same deposit?

I could do but I am trying to get my head around how much difference the 2011 would really be, they don't look vastly different apart from wheels.

Addition of 8sp box I think, and cleaner more efficient engine.  Not sure when the LCI 30d got the new box.  It wasn’t straight away.  Must be some spec differences for that price drop though?

I know roughly what the differences are, I guess what I am getting at is will I really notice any benefit in going for the LCI car?? For the last 6 months I have been bombing round in a 1.0 3 cylinder, 98,000 mile Citroen C1 so it's a massive step up all round! Lol!

Here is one I have placed deposit on - https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/201708318822556

Here is LCI - https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/2017 ... 92b8eff0d7

Where one loses out on one option it makes up for it with another - I am just not a lover of silver/black and worry that I wouldn't enjoy the car, I know that sounds stupid but a big part of buying a car is how it looks/appears/feels to the buyer/owner.

If your gut feeling is that you don't like silver cars and might not enjoy it then I would go with that and get the black one. It would be a shame to get the silver one and regret it.
Both cars look good and will drive exactly the same, so go for the one you would enjoy the most - the black one :)

Thanks bud that's exactly what I have decided, talked it through with SWMBO and despite the fact I would be saving money she isn't a lover of silver cars either and thinks it would always be a sticking point. I love the CB car with contrast interior and I know it's quite mamkte and won't be to everyone's taste.

So I am sticking to my guns, no more looking at www.bmw.co.uk/used for me and just looking forward to next Thursday!!!!

Cheers for being a impartial sounding board  ::)

Hello,

Good luck with your purchase.  Please note though that 7 seaters have uprated rear air suspension which is ideal if you are wanting to fit a towbar for a caravan, horsebox, or bike rack.  M sport models have adaptive drive which cuts down body roll on cornering amazingly well.  I have these features and they are "must haves" if I was looking to replace my 2008  3.0 d.

Also look at the tyres. They should be runflats with a * mark, all the same make and type with a good tread depth. Get down and look at the rear inside edges - if they are worn much more than the centre or outside edge, the tracking needs checking and adjusting and all 4 tyres replaced.

For me condition, service history, a more current specification and useful features are much more important than colour when seeking to buy a car that is several years old.

Thanks for your post, the 7 seats isn't of any use to me and I don't plan on pulling anything with the car so that wasn't a deal breaker for me.

Funny enough I just read an old thread about the * rated tyres, they are all the same around the car and matched in brand and tread depth with no uneven wear so fingers crossed we are all good there. With the benefit of the AUC warranty from BMW I hope this will provide some recourse should something go wrong.

For now I am going to revel in the excitement of delivery day - its the first time having owned 40 cars that I have bought one from a dealer!
