Knock/rattle

Post by henrym3 » Tue Oct 03, 2017 11:12 pm

Need a quick answer or experienced opinion. Got the above on front right suspension, recently replaced the link arms (lemforder)) can't see or feel anything loose although I haven't had time to jack car up yet, what's the likelihood of it being the top mount bearing. One minute driving fine, next rattling like mad over ripples in road or cats eyes. Cheers in advance

Hi Henry

I am more expert but see link for realoem
http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/partgrp ... 46is&mg=31

Looking at the above there are the lower control arms and the radius rods from the front back to the strut on each side, if you have replaced the control arms then worth checking the radius rods for play as these have bushes and links, if not it could be the stabiliser bar.

I think that both Horizon and X5 Salisbury have done a lot of work on theses cars and will know more.

Solved, a loose caliper mounting bolt. Should have noticed sooner that the rattle stopped when brakes were applied :axe:
