Webasto outside temp sensor

Evening all
still trying to get this sod working,  does anyone know if the Webasto takes the reading for the outside temp from the same sensor that goes to the dash,  when unplugged it will read -40 on the dash,  or you can get it to +1 if you stick it in icy cubes.
Cant get beyond the start up, seems normal, fan on, fuel pump ticking, fan ramps up to max,  the shuts down after few mins. No fault codes on the inpa. Glow plug tested on ohms and with 12v applied glows red. See there is a chap on Ebay sell the inner gauze that the fuel seeps onto, told me if it was black it needs changing as that could be the cause. Puts instructions on if anyone wants a look,  you have to make a cut to remove the housing. not cheap though. Mine looks in same condition as the one he has from the dismantle photos.
Thanks

Have you looked in the How To section - there is lots of webasto info there. have you search the rest of the forum using the search facility for Webasto as the key word. again, there have been lots of posts over the years

searched and searched but no mention of this ,  only asking as cannot get the sod to fire,  on last car, Galaxy diesel it had similar Eberspacher unit that fire when the car was running from cold and shut of when hot,  that unit had its own seperate sensor on the bulkhead,  all you had to do was bridge the 2 terminals and it was fooled into thinking it was 5c so would fire up everytime car started.
Didnt know if X5 had similar seperate sensor that you could fool or took its reading from the one that supplied the dashboard . It didnt fire up when i put it in freezing ice water and the dash read 1c so still didnt prove anything.
