Evening all

Looking at moving to a wonderful X3 2.0 xdrive m sport.

I've been offered a white car with no options for just under 33k, interest free for 4 years.....monthly payments are £330 with no deposit.

Only started looking today and was hoping for some feedback from owners re that deal.

Thanks in advance.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

I don't have an X3 but I assume the deal is from BMW itself if it's 4 years interest free credit. On that basis it's about 4K a year you would be paying and approx 16k over the 4 years and the value of a 4 year old X3 2.0 would probably be about the same as the balance remaining I would guess. You can always have a look at what 4 year old X3's are going for now as an estimate. The only caveat is unless it's a diesel and then you'll have to factor in the current 6% drop they mentioned in the news this week on the drop in prices of diesel cars.

The other factors to consider are it's it a new car or pre-registered car? How many owners ? and mileage? and year of reg? was it a 17 plate and we are now on 67 plate? or is it brand new order in which case why has it no options? All of this will affect the real value of the car, now and in the future.

It will probably come down to what you want and can afford in the end as most of us have a budget we have to stick to.

The trouble with BMW cars you have to add a lot of options to get the spec you want.

Also if you do buy the car and want to sell it or if on PCP and you hand it back at the end of the 4 years,  the residual value would probably be less or the car harder to sell as lacking in options that others may want or expect.

I would ask are they offering the same deal on better specked X3? And if not,why not?  If they arent it's possibly because it it's hard for them to shift this car as its the older reg or could be an Ex-demo car etc.

If they are offering the deal on a better specked car I would look at that and see what the differences in spec and price are first, by thats just me. Good luck with the decision.

Hi Graeme

Thanks for the reply.

It's a brand new car. It's for the other half mainly as I work from home. She wants a SUV type car and is happy enough with sat nav :)

The GFV is £17250 but she would be looking to change at that point anyway. It's around the same monthly figure as a Focus ST which seems really good.

32k just seems alot to finance on a car, although a friend in the trade told me to look at what you're paying over the term, rather than the sticker price.

Hi

Yes, if you are going to buy the car then look at the total cost over the term (the deposit/initial payment, monthly payments and the balloon payment at the end) then you know the real cost and if it was interest free or not, it's amazing how some aren't.

However, if like most people you have the cars for 4 years and trade in for a new PCP deal at the end, then the balloon payment is really immaterial as you never pay that, so just look at what you are paying (deposit/ initial payment and then your monthly payments).

Basically you are just leasing the car for that period, but when you come to renew you may or may not have any equity in the car the value of the Car when compared to the GFV quoted which you can then use to put as a deposit towards the new deal.

In which case it's down to whether the deal is good for you and given it's the same the focus it doesn't sound bad. And as we all know a happy wife is a happy life  :)

I bought an X3 20d M Sport on Saturday. £399 deposit and £399 for 48 months. Car has the M Sport Plus package and Rear Camera.

A pre registered model will set you back £550 a month on top of a hefty deposit.

My GFV is £18920
