Driver's Airbag Recall - E53 and other models

Looks like BMW are widening the recall for a driver's airbag issue. It was only for 2002/3 builds but we have now had a recall for our 2005 E46 as part of the same issue so the scope has got larger.
It has allegedly been caused by airbags in the US detonating but throwing metal shrapnel into the driver!
This had already been flagged in the Forum, but I thought I would wave a flag to say it has gone wider now and other owners may get recall notices - assuming BMW know who the Owners are.
It is the second recall in three years for early noughties built cars and affects millions of vehicles globally - not just BMW - apparently. The last recall we had was because the explosive was found to be damp in the passenger airbags gas generator. More pffftttt than bang!
