Retrofit heated seats (again I'm sure)

Hi guys,

A "hot" topic I'm sure ;)

My bus has the lovely Comfort Seats fitted, 4-zone climate... but no heated seats!

So.. I know I can spend 2k+ and get an OEM look fit or spend ~£500 and have a little switch somewhere and not look OEM...

What is actually involved in the OEM fit? Seems a lot of money!!
I think I will need a heating element + fascia switches, but hoping my seats might have some of the other wiring and control modules in already?

Anybody have any insight?

Cheers

As far as I know nothing will be in place if it wasn't ordered from the factory so you will need to add it all in  :(

Sorry can't help, but echo above as I would doubt that it would have anything ready to go

I would be a bit anxious retrofitting to comfort seats though

Lucky mine has both, but surprised me that many x5 when I was looking didn't have it fitted

Yeah they do look a bit complicated.... Better find a decent fitter I guess :)
Never simple :(

Hi

I know it's a stupid thought I'm sure you have checked for the switches on the dash but I though that if you had comfort seats they would have been heated as standard.

Ignore that as I have just checked an E70 brochure and it was an option.  :(
And it was only £305 for heated front seats in the brochure.

The problem with the seats will be you would need the heating element added to the seat, which I guess needs to be to to shape and rating. It may be worth checking under the seat to see if any spare connectors but I guess there won't be and that will mean you will also need the wiring.

You could look on realoem.com to see what parts they are or even check with BMW to see if they do a retro fit kit for this. I am sure there are aut electricians out there that can do it, but it would probably come down to cost.

I looked into this as I have comfort seats and went as far as taking out the passenger seat.
I fell at the first hurdle, could not see how to take the covers off, so many clips , wires etc.the covers themselves are a very tight fit on the frame, so gave up.
Still got the heated element pads somewhere.
Someone did the conversion on this forum, can,t remember the name, but with not being able to see photos on old posts anymore will make old' how to's' a bit difficult to follow.
