Been searching posts on tyres but can't find the definitive answer to which are the largest tyres will fit in the E70:
Looks like some run winters as follows with no rub or issues:
265/50/20
295/45/20
Are there any chunkier which will fit without rub? can you go bigger on staggered wheels?

Largest tyres E70?
Re: Largest tyres E70?
If you fit anything other than the sizes listed on the B pillar you may run into trouble with the transmission. These cars are known for being very intolerant of tyre types (it is to do with the overall circumference) and this can cause catastrophic failures of the diffs and transfer box.
The staggered sets are more prone to this hence a series of approved tyres with matched radii and circumferences - and carrying a '*' on the sidewall - being made.
Owners have found tyres that have the right size but not the '*' mark being more than 30mm out and this is enough to do terminal damage. Replacement diffs are hard to source, and genuine replacements are very expensive. If having fitted the tyres of your choice there is any indication of odd noises from the transmission, or jerkiness at low speed on full lock then tyre issues are the most likely source.

Re: Largest tyres E70?
Thanks for the reply, I've just got it and it has a slight judder in the steering and a slight pull to the right.
My inherited rubber are 4 different brands all of varying tread depth, this sounds in line with what you've mentioned eh?

Best sticking with BMW recommended tyres 275/40/20 fronts and 315/35/20 rears star rated . Or go for 19" wheels and tyres as these are often cheaper than a new set of 20" .

If it was mine I would have the tyres changed and the correct sizes fitted - assuming you have OEM wheels fitted?
You don't have to stick with runflat which will reduce the cost. Standard fit were RFT, and Realoem will tell you what is being fitted.
