MoT question

Hoping someone may know the answer to this as I have had two conflicting answers from two MoT stations.
My mot expires mid September and Im getting it tested, early, this week. I am aware that if it passes I will effectively have a thirteen month mot cetrificste.
But what is the situation if it fails? One tester said it would show up on the system and that it could not be driven. The other tester said that it was more complex - his take on it was that the original expiry date still stands, but .....it is not illegal to drive a car which has failed an mot, but it is illegal to drive, or knowingly drive, a car that is not roadworthy, and an mot failure for any reason would deem it be unroadworthy.
So driving it, if it were to fail, would be at my risk, but my question is, does the original expiry date still stand or not?

I would imagine once it has failed its failed, and therefore deemed to be unroadworthy

Yes if it fails then it will be deemed to have no mot.

A colleague of mine had this a few months ago, and he too was told that the 'fail' was immediate and overrode any previously issued ticket expiry date.

An update.... having discussed it at length with the tester, the system takes an hour or so to update. After that the result stands and a fail supercedes the previous pas, but ..... a retest still gives the iriginal retrst date so you can still have a 13 month certificate.
Oh and it passed, for the 7th consecutive year
