Anyone tuned a 50d?

I'm interested to learn more about people's tuning experience for the 50d.

I've had remaps and boxes in the past, giving a variety of results but since the N57 engine is used from 200 to 376 BHP I'm not sure how much headspace it has left!

Options seem to run to around 450-460 BHP which I don't anticipate being a problem. The torque figures however can top 860NM.

The gearbox is rated 750NM although my car has been dyno'd at 799 - I'm assuming therefore that BMW is not so precious about absolute rating (perhaps ZF kept a bit back).

Hi Mark

It may be worth having a chat with Jason at BW Chiptune our helpful ecu guru.his details are in the tuning section.

He will steer you right as you say  the gearbox is the weak link in the tuning or at least it was on the early ZF boxes.

Or it may be easier if you want more power to get an F15 X5M, and your own petrol tanker to follow you  :))

Or use the Rolls-Royce variant of the box....1,000Nm rated  :)

I guess they still call it 'sufficient' when asked for the car specs by new Owners  :))

Funnily enough, when I bough the car last year my annual mileage was 25,000. Since changing jobs it's more likely to be around 12 - 14,000 - had I known that I would have looked more seriously at the X5M.

Now I'm in a PCP so swapping would be cost prohibitive.
