wet passenger footwell

Post by wilsbrough » Wed Aug 02, 2017 5:06 pm

Hey guy. Appreciate any input.....

I have recently noticed my front passenger footwell carpet is very wet. I have recently (1 week ago) was a little exuberant going through some large puddles after some heavy rain. (coxed on by my 5yr old son I add...) but they were not that deep Imo. But even if that was the cause, I would have thought that should have dried out after a week?

Is there anything else down there that I should be aware of? Blocked drain holes, rainwater channels etc that may have caused this?

Thanks
Andrew.

Have you been using the rear wash a lot? There is a connection which tends to let go down beside the handbrake under the carpets all places to join a plastic pipe!

Check any front scuttles too as they can fill with leaves and rubbish so defeating the drains.  Water can then appear from behind the dash.

The washer hose problem is a known issue!  Very silly place to put a joint.  >:(

No, not been using the rear washer jet, but I guess if the joint has failed? Is there an easy way to get to it?

And yes, it has the panoramic sunroof....

I'd go with the sunroof drains first then. A bit of googling will reveal details of how to check the drain tubes. Mine didn't have a sunroof so I can't help but more likely to be that than the washer pipe joint, as mine only leaked while it was being used and under pressure from the washer pump.

Yes, there does seem to be a fair bit on early x3 sunroofs leaking....☹ Tho, it may be worth mentioning that it has just had a major service.... Wondering if the washer bottle was nearly empty and was filled up. Would the washer hose leak if not being used?

Ok, thanks for the input... Currently camping in a tent with 80mph winds. Usual for British summertime I guess... 8) Will have a look when I get home. (as long as we have not been blown out halfway across to France by then...) Will update if problem was solved..

Cheers.

Durdle door in Dorset..... Had over an inch of rain in under 24hrs and It was 85kph winds not mph since weds morning. My mistake, but try that in a tent with a four year old, it still felt like we was halfway up the north face of Everest.....  On the plus side, the worst seems to be behind us and we may even get some sun today.... :)

Thx. Yes it is, had pretty much full day of sun today and most of the day down on the beach by the arch. Thought I may have been brave enough to swim through it, but thigh deep was all I could manage.... :) Should have bought my wetsuit....

Try checking the vapour barriers if all else fails.

Managed to get to look under the car today. I have some long metal brushes that I use to clean spray guns out with, that got pretty far up there, and then blew an airline down from the top of the sun roof. Not all that much gunk in there really, tho there was considerably more on the side that had the wet foot well.

Strange thing was, as I have had the floor mats out to let it dry, I noticed that the carpet had dried out, but we have had some pretty heavy rain, so I was surprised that they had dried.

Wait and see I guess.....
