DISPLAY SCREEN

Post by X5Andym » Sat Jul 22, 2017 10:31 am

Hi All,  :)

Help, advice please has anyone change their Radio Stereo Head Unit display screen on E53 (X5) for a update touch screen. E53 Android 5.1 SatNav GPS Radio Stereo Head Unit BT DAB DVD.

I am no car electrician by any means, found a unit on ebay, (172319639658) looks like a straight plug in, or can you recommended a unit and how to install.

Thank you very much

Cheers

Andy

It's a little more involved replacing the headunit on a factory fitted satnav car. There is a cable you need to purchase that runs from the rear of the aftermarket headunit to the Boot.
There is a current thread running at the moment where the poster says he needs the cable for his replacement unit, at a cost of £60.
http://xdrivers.co.uk/forum/index.php/t ... n.html#new
I ran a cable from my boot area recently in my X3 whilst fitting my towbar electrics that  connected to a module behind the dash, it wasn't a difficult job really easy diy able.
I asked was it a factory nav car, as when I fitted a Dynavin to my E53 all the wiring was there in the dash as mine was a non nav car so didn't have to run the cables to the boot.
But saying that I had to cut out the plastic shelf that held in the CD player and the MID unit, so there was no going back.

Hi bud,
i purchased the eonon ga7166s unit. It came with the harness needed to connect and run through the car. The new unit is a swap out affair with the original nav screen. I love it and took about an hour to install.
Worth a look for the £300 i paid. They have a new updated model since however for a tad more the GA7166a.

Did you have to cut the housing inside the dash to fit the head unit? or did it just slip in (fnar, fnar).
