Hi, on Sunday the blower was working fine, Monday morning, dead as a dodo, also the rear blower has died at the same time, auto elec says it's the motor, climate readout goes up and down, fan speed as well, but fan does not operate, front or rear, any ideas pleae.

Fuses?  There is more than one fan so unlikely all will go together.

Checked all the fuses, they are all fine

Would the FSR hedgehog cause this ? Only guessing out loud

Definitely worth a check, given it's such a cheap part and known failure point.

FSR for the unitiated is the Final Stage Resistor for the aircon system and if it fails causes havoc.  Frequently the fans get stuck on even with the car off but it can also cause the fans to go on strike altogether.

Going to replace the hedgehog tomorrow, and see if that works, don't really want to take all the dash out to replace the motor unless I have to, fingers crossed.

Just got my x5 last Friday and the internal fan was sometimes working properly sometimes not, it worked fine on the way home, the next day the fan had a mind of its own but blew at various speeds during the day, the day after that it refused to stop running even when the car was turned off and killed the battery. Good job it did really as I'd got a new battery ready to go in.
Did a bit of research and there's plenty of cheap ones on fleabay, I decided against that route and got one from BMW. The newer ones have more spikes on the hedgehog, whether that makes them last any longer seems a matter of opinion!
It is loacated just to the left of your left foot, in the drivers footwell, there's one small plastic retaking lug at the bottom, if you lever that down and pull it out an inch it's much easier to get the plug off. If you want I can take a photo tomorrow.

If you send a PM to Cotswold BMW they'll do a bit of discount and ship very quickly, one of the guys on here recommended them and they seem pretty good, hooked me up with a cam chain tensioner at the same time.

Thanks for the reply, new one arrives 9am tomorrow morning, hopeful that will solve it. Will keep you all posted on the outcome.

It's the fan motor that has given up, so new one ordered, dashboard out, and hopefully, aircon again by next Monday 

Isn't progress wonderful. The fan on my M3 packed up on 25 years, remove, lub bush bearings, replace brushes, a whopping £5, reassemble. Will now probably last longer than me.

Yesterday was the day, finally got aircon again, took me 7 hours to strip the dash, center console and remove old fan, clean and fit new one, then put everything back, there were some good video's on utube, slow and steady, now one very happy x5 owner again 

Is the old unit U/s?, I would have a play and relube bearings (chances are they are sintered bearings and just need a soak in oil), replace brushes and see how it goes.
