Broken Wing Mirror

While parked at the airport the other day some asshat has walked between my car and the next and bent my drivers wing mirror back. It now doesn't click back into the original position and floats loosely in a 1-2" range.

Does anyone know if there is a spring or some sort of clip within the housing that can be changed? Or is it goosed? When driving along the mirror now swings round past where I need it to be.

Hard to explain but i will try.
There are 4 small screws that hold the mirror and the mount together.
The screws go into like a small stand-off screw-hole if that makes sense.
On the one i fixed the stand-off had broken off letting the mirror part float about.
What i did was to drill small pilot holes where the stand-off thing had broken off and just put self tappers in instead.
If you take the mirror off you will see what i am on about and it will make sense then.
It is a poor design i think when you see the thin stand-off bit i am on about very flimsy.

From previous cars I believe I know the 4 screws you are talking about, but they are on the part which holds the glass? It's actually the whole mirror unit that is moving on the hinge, not just the glass bit. Sorry, I should've clarified.

No not on the glass.
If you look under the arm you will see a plastic cover.
Pop that off and you can see 1 or might be 2 of the screws i am talking about.
The hold the 2 half's together.
Like i said you will see what i am saying when you take it off.
Take the plastic's off while the mirror is still on the car and you will see a round dome type and the screws go in the bottom of that.

There's 4 screws up in here. Do I take them out? I don't see the dome thing you mention.

The dome thing is under the mirror back and plastic from the door to mirror back cover if you understand it all clips off.

Took it all apart there. From what I can work out nothing appears to be broken as such. The play seems to be in the motor.

The electric fold mirrors can go limp if clouted/knocked.

Sometimes very gently pushing mirror back/forth can relocate things.....Also pushing the fold mirror button on and off a few times can get the mirrors working in sync again.

If in doubt have a closer look or take it to someone familiar with fixing these.

So to be clear - are you saying the every post with a pic inserted. you can no longer see. If I can see pics in every post (that has a pic)? I can see pics here in the how to about mirrorshttp://xdrivers.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,8001.0.html

Pressing the button to fold the mirrors seems to have got it reset back to the correct position, I'll just try not to touch it again!
