Hi Guys,

My dash is now showing that its time for an Inspection (1 or 2) on my 160K miles  5.0d  and I brake fluid change.

I have always used the main dealers since I bought 9yrs ago except for brake discs & pads  I change myself.

Since car is now so old (and still loved). Do i need to still go back to the dealers for the Inspection & break fluid change or head down to the indy's for a lesser cost?

Thanks

Hi

I would go Indy for the brake fluid change as it can be a problem on these, or at least checking with them first.

The reason is it the BMW system has to be bled with the use of a special brake tool, if I remember correct it can cause probs as something to do with the abs module or  control valve  either not opening or closing and you end up with air in the system

So you end up with a lack of brake pressure which is not good, as one forum member had. There was a post on this a couple of years ago.

You must either maintain a pressure of no more than 20psi on the system, or a slight vacuum (BMW method) on each bleed point and if you get any air in then you need software to cycle the ABS module valves.  Unless 100% happy get an Indy who has the right tools and BMW software to do it.
