Not entirely sure I've posted this in the right place, however I haven't decided for sure if I will break the car yet.

The car is a silver 2003 4.6is, its developed a ticking, if I'm honest I don't have the time or energy to get into it, as much as I enjoy the car.

I'm debating breaking it and thought I'd see what the interest was like on here before I go anywhere else with it.

Also, if people could help me on price points for various parts; wheels, bumpers, interior (red heated leather), etc.

I can post up pictures if it helps.

If this is in the wrong place, apologies and I will move it.

For your interest, I sold mine for £2000 to a breakers in Birmingham. Good condition except the LPG was defunct

It would probably be worth posting a few pics up of the car so forum members get an idea if the condition of the parts you could be selling.

I am sure they would be interest in the parts you have mentioned, but it would help to know where you are located for pick up or to in order to estimate courier/ postage costs.

Yes the  engine was good, I had rebuilt it about 45000 miles previously.  That looks really too nice to break, advertise it with an engine problem and see what interest you get. If the noise is the tensioners, its not too expensive to repair if they havent actually broken

Looks in great condition, surprised to see 4.6 IS with out sat nav. I bought a 3.0d without it and fitted the Dynavin system as all the others X5's I looked at were dogs.

You definitely need to put up more detail of the car, all the usual stuff, service history, general condition, miles etc etc

No sat nav and red leather would make it harder to sell than others out there, but probably still fetch more than breaking and with less hassle.

It's done 93500 miles, service history is good but has bits missing I'm sure, it was owned by a family friend who appeared to give it everything it needed, I have also spent some time sorting various bits (subframe bushes/other suspension arms etc). It's a 2 owner car.

General condition is really good for its age in my opinion.

The noise started last week when I went for a run in it, I instantly heard the noise and turned back and stopped the car. It was a sort of rotating ticking, not very loud currently, I'd guess chain guides at first, if this is the case, it's been caught very early and the car will not be started again unless a potential buyer requests to hear it.

I'd disagree with the sat nav and interior points, the E53 sat nav is way out dated now and having no nav makes for a very simple install when it comes to an Eonon conversion etc. Also, the red interior from what I've seen/read is quite rare and most people seem to love it, but I would imagine it's an acquired taste.

Why don't you offer it for sale with a proper write up.
For the right sort of money it's worth someone repairing it.

If you think that the noise is potentially terminal why would you even start it for a potential buyer to hear? It could go bang, they walk away and then you're stuffed.
Have you considered getting a quote to have the issue diagnosed and fixed? My point being that you're saying on the one hand that you don't know what it would cost and on the other hand you are considering scrapping it. I've often heard noises on cars that I thought were going to e hugely problematic, time consuming and expensive and it turned out to be something relatively simple.
Do you have breakdown cover - you could get the AA or similar to come and diagnose?

You are correct, ideally I would prefer to not start it, but I can't imagine anyone would buy it blind, maybe I'm wrong.

I have considered it getting quotes for repair, I just could do without the hassle at the minute. I think I'd rather sell on and hope someone can sort it relatively cheaply and enjoy it.

I have RAC, but I assume they'll turn up and want to run it up etc, I'm fairly sure it's the start of guide failure, so would rather leave it alone for now.

I will be advertising complete and see what the interest is like, if no interest, I will break it fairly quickly.

The buy it now was done by someone with zero feedback/activity and they've not contacted me yet, so I'm assuming in 48hours, I'll be re listing it. Bit of a pain as it had a decent amount of interest.
