Hi
I'm just in the middle of upgrading the CIC HDD drive to a SSD drive - will expect faster start time for navigation system and multimedia.

Is the HDD the slow bit, or the OS and CIC CPU though?

Hi X5Sport
The system (CPU, ram etc.) is not the fastest system, but the harddrive isn't heloing much if it is the old mechanical type.
The upgrade makes the navigation more responsive/faster, loads faster, quicker copy of music from USB sticks etc. - and then it safes fuel....
well, in these days where everything counts - the old drive consumes 1.3A, and the new SSD is only 0.3A ......I'm not expecting much

Worth doing then
Can the system address the extra space or are you still locked into the old 80GB (74GB formatted) limits?

I had read that no-one had worked out how to expand the music partition...unless you know otherwise BSJ!

Regarding the 12.7GB limit in the music library, I don't think that it can be expanded
I tried to enlarge the partion to 15GB (also tried 20 and 30) but the iDrive system still shows 12.7GB, so it must be due to software limits
Not an unknown issue - Previously I worked with production of large format scanners (Contex & HP), and we had a 10GB limit on the 160GB HDD - for no particular reason, other than the software guys had found it "easier"

Have a read of this

It was my next project. He successfully made the music partition larger, a bit of a task, but it works.

Interesting stuff - thank you ^-^
I have a couple of 120GB SSDs hanging around and was keen to try this out until I realised that the CIC disk is IDE. I know you can buy IDE SSDs but I wonder if this adaptor and an IDE disk would fit behind the front panel:

I read a lot of stuff on this and the only real success was with the Zheino disc used by the OP
