Better introduce myself, long time lurker, first time poster…

Have been driving X5’s for years and Beemers in the family for as long as I can remember.

Currently have a 2004 E53 3.0D SE in silver with grey leather interior, and a small list of extras, the most useful being the remote external heating kit. Alas the car is going next Thursday (10th) :(

To be replaced by a 2009 E70 3.5D Sport in Charcoal Black, Black leather interior, 7 seats, 20” wheels, sunroof, media packs, xenons, folding mirrors, reversing camera and a few more options too. I can’t wait… :D

Will need to get a towbar fitted to the new one, not to tow but just to carry the bike racks around.

A picture of the old one - Image

I had it since 2005 and it was great. Was used on forest tracks and farms, which made the 17" wheels great. Be interesting to see how the new one on 20" handles the same.

the old one is going in P/ex up to Sandal BMW in Wakefield, but is to old & too high a mileage to go into the stealer network, so will end up at an independants somewhere.

Welcome, the pain of one leaving is always lessened when a new one is coming :D

I must learn that trick of actually selling my cars when I get new ones instead of building new garages for each addition ...

Nicest looking 17's made for the E53 IMO.

Depending on the deal provisionally done you might find yourself better off selling privately before collection of the E70........Unfortunately many get this wrong becauewe they price against the other cars optimistically advertised rather than merely trying to secure a moderate worthwhile gain above the p/x offer.

Luckily no - maybe a handful of times a year now and nothing worse than foresty tracks or unmade roads.

If i was building the car from new, then I would have gone for another SE spec, but trying to find a used 2 yo car with the extras I wanted meant getting the m-sport. Not too worried though as a lot is how you drive them. I expect to get some winter wheels as well and may put those on if I need to hit the muddy stuff.

Changed motors yesterday afternoon. Work kept on getting in the way so was only able to go out for a brief spin to pick my son up from after school football, but first impressions very nice. It’s got the sport seats and they are a lot firmer than the standard ones I had in the X53. Still got to find a comfortable position! The ride wasn’t as crashing as I thought it would be coming from one end of the X5 spectrum to the other. However the big wheels do take a bit more effort to turn.

Spent ages going through the manual and working out how to make the thing actually work – the old X53, although being only 5 years old seems so agricultural now!

The children like having a bit more space and love the panoramic sunroof. Haven’t opened up the 7 seats yet, but off to the parents in a weeks time, so will take full advantage then instead of having to take 2 cars when we go out anywhere.

The extra power is a good too – but I read about the fuel economy and was surprised to see a 25.6mpg consumption on the computer when it came to me. I had to top it up as well this morning - £100 to the brim, and the range is now showing 500miles! It was showing 74miles when I pulled into the garage. Have to keep a close eye on that – may even have to revert to using the company buses to get into work some days as the 50p each way trip is about the same as getting to the end of my road!

Just need to book to get the towbar fitted now and some better mats to protect the car from my children (and football boots etc). Oh and waiting for the plate transfer to come through too.

It just needs a good clean now and possibly a polish (I started reading the polishing thread and tbh I don’t even know what clay does!) and then some pictures can be posted up.

The Aston is lovely... my friend has the V12 Aston at the moment - he changes his cars all the time though!
