Tow-bar

Post by Alan Gunn » Sun Jun 18, 2017 7:26 am

Can anybody tell me if the tow-bar is the same on a 2002 sport as a 2002 none sport model.

Have a look at Realoem and see if the part numbers are different.  I would not have expected any difference to be honest.  Use the last 7 of your VIN to get the correct version.

Thanks for the reply's.
I ordered one and the company asked for my reg number then got back to me saying it didn't fit the sport as sports models had different bumpers might be on an e46 but i didn't think so on an e53.

If it helps, BMW use Westphalia bars if factory fitted.  The E53 just has a cover that comes off but the E70 bumper needs cutting and it may be that one they are confusing it with?  The E70 has different bumpers with MSport trim, the E53 doesn't AFAIK.

There's an amazingly detailed guide to fitting the Westfalia tow bar on here if you search for it.

Mine is a Sport and the Westfalia one fitted without any cutting.

My Westfalia tow bar I bought from PF jones came with the dedicated electrics kit. With the wiring came the relay box which had two lugs on the sides to bolt it to the boot floor, did yours have a similar box. And if so where did you secure it.
Sorry I can't be of more help as mine was for the E83 X3.Image

Thanks to all for the replies.
Horizon  The module on the e53 goes by the battery.
I will just have to live with having 4 short bolts that don't do anything.
Unless you know better ?????????.  ;) ;)
