Had 2 letters today from BMW saying that our X5's have to have new driver airbags on recall. Odd acer all these years.. Anyone else?

Our E46 was done when 10 years old. If the car is on the road, recalls still apply. There is a cutoff but it is a number of years after production of that model ceases. Interestingly this recall is for a different problem. The E46 one we had was due to 'damp explosive' being present.
Recall attached.......

Check the DVSA recall site for VIN range for the E39. There is a different recall for airbag issues for later cars with faulty explosive in the front passenger airbag too. It doesn't just affect BMW either. One particular airbag manufacturer produced tens of thousands of suspect/faulty units.
