Newbie from Ireland - Looking to put in an Aux to listen to iphone music

Hello All, newbie here from Ireland! Just picked up a 2005 X5 M SPORT. In good general order, well kept, low milage, driving well. Overall I'm pretty pleased. Although, being a 2005, I'd really like to be in a position to play iphone music library through an AUX. It has an AUX in & out at the rear of the centre rest unit but i understand this is only for a Tv connection. Essentially I'm pretty handy myself & would be confident enough about installing my own AUX port. Or is there any need to? Is there an alternative? Would very much appreciate any assistance here. Thanks.

Have you got the sat nav, If so, There is a unused cable behind the sat nav unit. I think on 2002 & later models.
Buy this cable

When you connect it, When you press mode button a few times on your sat nav, Aux mode will appear, Connect you Ipod or IPhone & you can listen to your music, First thing I did when I got my car.

Thanks ColeyBMWX5 - Much appreciated. Tell me, is it difficult to remove the unit to get at the rear access area? (ok that sounds funny as I read it!), I have the Nav screen the rotates down as it where to expose the tape deck area?

It's pretty easy Pontiac. On here there is a picture diy for ribbon refit (several I think) that includes removal:
Here is one:

Just use something non marking to remove trim surround, and then just a few little bolts.

It is easy Just like the link Upex has put on, Just make sure you don't drop the screws, If they drop down & fall behind the sat nav unit you want find them, When you rotate the screen down you only have around 10 seconds to remove the bottom screws before the screen rotates back. So I would rotate the screen & then remove the fuse so it says in that position, The plastic trim round the sat nav, just pulls off with a little bit of force, Just use something that wont damage it, I just used a screwdriver with a cloth over it to remove it.

My E53 had an aux port buried on the right hand side of the glove box (inside).
Apparently it was a dealer fit thing, bloody stupid place to put it!
Just thought you might want to check in case there's already one in there

The Dealer fit option was to the RHS of the glovebox. Mine was put in there too and when the lid was shut it covered the port. Doh!
