I did not make the plates but are spaced correctly within standards and have garage details as proof . Yes, you are correct that is the right reading but looks good as a modern plate, eg. AB 12 XYZ.

I'm not trying to rain on your parade, but your modern plate example should be "AB12 XYZ". There's only one space between the two groups. I believe you are supposed to have 11mm between characters and 33mm between the 2 groups. If you have it spaced differently you risk the coppers deciding to use it as an excuse to pull you over, fining you and giving you 3 penalty points.

All understood guys, but was told the spacing is actually legal, what I have, my keyboard makes it look worserer than it really is.

If unsure, check Sec 6.3 of the MOT regs as per......pre-2001 format as the plate is from that series.
If it isn't in accordance with this then it's an MOT fail. Not sure what you actually have but the first 4 characters should be as a block, then a space, then three letters as a block.
Some traffic police/VOSA areas don't care, but some forces are absolute >:D about it. Personally
I don't have a real view as modern cameras and software can work it out. Deliberate obscuring/modifying (such as wrong coloured bolts in odd places) I do have issues with as it might be on a car that collides with you and vanishes and no one can trace it!

Nice plate , i had a personal plate and moved it to different cars over the space of 28 years its 3 letter and 3 number but was in the style of the old digital watches , nobody ever mentioned it not even the MOT centre , its only lately its been changed to legal plates still use the old plates for trailers
