OIL HOUSING INNER TOWER PIECE - BROKEN SUSPECT PIECES IN ENGINE ??

Hi All
As you do, I thought as it's a good day (It Was >:() I thought I'd change the engine oil and filter.
Drained the oil and opened up the filter housing to find that the inner tower piece was in bits. The only thing I can think of is that the garage that carried out the last service had over tightened the cap and broke the inner tower and left it well alone (won't be using that garage ever again  and as I only cover less than 1500 miles a year it's case closed on going to that garage to complain.
Well having collected as many of the pieces out of the oil housing and had a good look I've found that there are some small pieces missing and having refilled the engine with clean oil (and turned the engine over , god knows why I done that, JUST WASN'T THINKING,and it was by a fluke that I didn't put the oil housing cover back on,, AND YES Old Oil went every where; hopefully the pieces exited the system when this happen ????) I'm going to dump the oil again, disconnect all lines to the oil cooler and flush, then examine the oil via a filter for any small plastic pieces.
QUESTION: What's The Odds Of These's Pieces Coming Out And/Or Causing Engine Damage?
Any Suggestions On What Else To Do????????????
