Super glue

Post by Reedster » Sun May 28, 2017 6:30 am

The frustrating thing with most super glues is finding one that works. X5 and other cars I guess can suffer with bonded plastic sections de-laminating, allowing water in. I have found that http://www.toolstation.com/shop/Adhesiv ... 47409  or similar brands work very well with no adverse effect to the plastic lens on the X5 rear lights. I cleaned up the gap between the red lens and the grey inner. When dry ran the liquid glue around and into this gap, then use the activator spray to set the glue. Refit making sure foam gasket is good, re bed on new mastic, fit light ............ job done. (This worked on the other first X5 I had if only for a short time  ;) ) Some times prevention is better than having to cure.

Just a heads up. Be careful with overspray when using this stuff. I'm a builder and used to use it to trim fascia boards on the corners. Found out in later months that it actually produces a yellowish stain on the plastic face, even though at the time it was wiped of and polished up. Doesn't however happen with howdens versions of the same product (commonly known as mitre mate) and here was me thinking it came from the same factory just in different cans and bottles..........
