Hi All
I recently purchased a 14 plate x40d in grey, I am also new to the BMW camp, I am super impressed with the car. Drive and build quality are really good. The majority of my cars have been from the VAG family and a few Japanese thrown into the mix.
I see that a number of people have considered a remap, as am I and wondered what the impact of having a remap is on the warranty?
Thanks
Richard

Hello and
Simples, BMW will walk away if they find it....and they can simply by plugging the car in to their diagnostic kit.
Out of warranty all you lose is 'Goodwill' meaning you pay all of the costs.
Someone in here has just bought a used one with an unknown remap and BMW are refusing cover on large parts of the car now.
VAG are more supportive of remaps, and even offer official ones.

Thanks and thanks for the info.
I will wait until the warranty has expired before the remap.
Maybe invest in a new exhaust instead

Have a chat with Jason at BWChiptune (also a Forum member) who does bespoke remaps and may know of a way around the tell-tale that is left in the ECU.

Hi and welcome to the forum.
Congrats on your new 40d X5.
As X5Sport says be careful if deciding to do a remap as on a newer car BMW will probably treat any warranty as null and void.
Since the 40d is quite rapid esp I Sport mode I would see how you progress before deciding on that route, as any software updates done by BMW will also override any map you have put on the car.
I would say the goodwill and warranty definitely need to be considered unless you have very deep pockets because if they go wrong they are very expensive to fix.
If you want more power it may be better to look at the M50d that some on here have and it definitely brings a smile to their faces with about 380bhp and a massive torque figure.
