My dad had his X5 serviced the other day and the engine light has now appeared. I ran a diagnostic test on it and the results came back with P0171 OBD-II Trouble Code: System Too Lean (Bank 1). This happened last time on the previous service but went away after time he informed me. Is this a common issue and anyway to fix it? Reading a bit online it seems it could be fuel related and he does have an X5 with a LPG conversion.

It may be that the service center disconnected something, then plugged it back in. ie vac line. This can cause a code to set, reset/clear code and see if it comes back, if it does check for vacuum leak.

I have this show up on my car (has lpg), I keep on coding it out with my coder.
Common lpg induced error.

I think it's quite common when LPG is fitted, remember this light appearing from time to time when I owned my gas bus.

This is what I did today 23 June 2017, for some reason this post is carrying on from the Quote:
Had the warning on for ages, someone suggested checking the connections at the cat on the downpipe. Well took the plunge and dived under, sure enough somehow the lead to the cat rh side had become disconnected at the plug on the side of the engine.
Bit of a sod releasing the female socket from the spring holder, eventually managed it, reconnected male side of plug and made sure the 2 tabs were securing the plug together, refitted to the holder , cancelled the Engine management light with my reader and now ok.
