Not put off .............

The saga continues. Took the X5 back and took the two cars back plus my money............. Result.
Off to look at another X5 E70 3.0sd SE, two years younger and cheaper tax..... bonus and less miles 68k on a 09 plate. FSH. Four hour drive from Cornwall so lets hope its worth it.
Done a lot of searching for faults but is there any particular quirks to really look out for. Thanks.

Good luck

Not sure what the market is like out there, but definitely go for spec you want, worth holding out for the right one

Ours has 7 seat, 3.0sd/ 35d twin turbo (which is lower tax bracket to the 3.0d),  which was the main things

I don't think sat nav, heated seats or xenons were standard but these are a must on my list

Ours came with more, comfort seats, bi xenons, rear heated seats, rear climate control, entertainment pack, heads up display, adaptive drive, m sport model

I didn't want sunroof as I've heard of leaking and electrical issues

The 3.0d had the cheaper tax around the end of 2007.

That was a waste of time 68k and a new turbo they think, no docs to prove. Had work done as top end was clean and had been worked on, lower engine shield had oil around it from where ever. Tracking was seriously bad as two fronts were worn on the outside. Just a quick rub over the tyres with some black shiny stuff and splattered onto the body. No attempt to valet the car had been done. Asked what pre sales service would be done ......... none it was done 4k ago. At that point said goodbye, knew I had stayed too long already.
Nice drive back to Kernowshire though.

Just a small point re the front tyres being worn on the outside edges.  ( and Im not saying the car wasn't a dog / badly prepared ) but just for when you go look at the next one. It is a well known issue and the tracking may well have been within tolerance.
Look on here many posts regarding this.
I bought a new X5 and it chewed through a set of fronts in under 10 K miles. BMW checked it and said it was well withing tolerance.
Thats the key...........tolerance.
Find a good alignment company that has a huntsman alignment machine and tell the operator what its doing ( scrubbing outside edges ) and get him to go to the limit of tolerance and a tad more and you will find it will solve your issue.
You can also dial out a little of the negative camber on the back and get much better tyre wear.
Grip is never an issue with a 285 or a 315 tyre on the rear.
Good luck in your search.

Gone up a couple of years 59 plate xdrive 30d M sport........... and it dry. with full BMW history 64k on the clock. Comes with service and new MOT. Galaxy met grey........... and good tyres. Have dealt with the garage before and had excellent service then with a car for my daughter, so bit the bullet and went for it

Thanks for the highlights to look out for guys that's much appreciated.

Regarding the tracking I had some front toe and rear camber taken off our X5 and our last set of Mich Latitude Sport 3's lasted over 20K.

I recommend doing a full health check at BMW or a reputable specialist. It will give peace of mind and ensure that it sails through MOT. Also, check that everything has been serviced!
