Back to square one

After washer fluid dumped into the footwells on the first day, car went back for washer pipe repair. Back to me, same again, back to garage again and a couple of other repairs sorted also. Back to me still drying out and some residual water in front also boot around battery at times. Out with wet vac to extract as much as I could including un blocking drain outlets in front of engine bulkhead. Washed car and some rain at times ............. still water, and I am getting 'P' off. Rear lights checked, sealed and dry out again . Rain through night, water in boot and front on drivers side. Outcome :- Having my trade ins back and money back on the weekend. Looking at the reviews water ingress seems to be a known problem, one I missed before buying. What do I go for now ? Defiantly keeping the Z4, at least I will have some fun with the lid down and its dryer than the X5.

Hi

Sorry to hear the garage didn't get the the car dried out and the problem solved. Was it a dealer or an Indy garage?

As if it's BMW then you could escalate the problem to help get it sorted, and did they say what the cause was?

Although from rereading your post it seems you are going back to you old car. If you are now looking for another I hope you find one which is drier

Hi

Did you have a sunroof on the car and did they check all the sunroof drain holes, as if they are blocked it could leak in to the cabin?

I am no expert, but given you have water all over the car I would agree with the last reply and suggest its the pan roof.
X5 ownership shouldn't have that level of misery. I think the garage has to take some of the blame as they clearly haven't been able to solve the issue.

Sorry to hear, its not that frequent or persistent a problem on the E70, not to that level anyway.  Hopefully doesn't put you off X5s forever, as its unusual to have that level of water ingress!

Seen the replies and thanks. They are an indy dealer that mainly buys from BMW main dealers. No sun roof so not a problem. I am at a blank as I will use the old X3 but will look again for the X5. I also have a plate that reads X5 00 then my initals so that goes on retention.
I do love the cars so will keep looking.

The front scuttle drains are also a known issue if they get blocked.  I thought the washer bottle was in a place that would not allow water in  ???

I presume the washer bottle is all ok but the feed pipe was broken apparently in two places. I did clean out the front drains also the one below the brake servo. This drain hole looked like an oval grommet until I started fiddling and cleared the dirt out. There is also a bolted shield protecting a ???? almost on the flat area below the servo. The shield was loose and the bolts possibly a source of water ingress as the drain was blocked.
