Good morning guys, was at Asda this morning and when I came back to the car (2008 X5 E70),started up and got loads of fault messages flashing up regarding light failures, brake lights, fog lights, reversing lights etc, checked all lights and they are all working except both front indicators, have checked the bulbs and they are ok,any ideas as to how to why this might have happened.

I think it's called the footwell module, it controls all the lights and electric windows I think.
They are a bit fragile on the E70 and also the E9# series.
Have a read on the internet to see if it shows similar symptoms.
Try the Hazard lights.
Try a batter disconnect reset.
Maybe suspect battery, do you get the battery low voltage warning on the IDrive at all.?

Hazards work but still not front indicator lamps, windows all ok,no low voltage warning, didn`t really want to disconnect battery in case it makes matters worse.Checked battery voltage and only showing 11 volts so suspect that may be the problem, showing 14 volts with engine running.

If it's a BMW battery there will be the dates stamped into the +/- terminal posts. It could well be the original battery on an 08 car.
11 v is no good, 14v when running shows the alternator is working well.
Time for a new battery I think.
Hopefully an new battery, combined with the disconnection of power to the car that comes with the task, it may come good.
The fact the hazards work shows the bulbs and initial wiring are intact

I took the front indicator bulbs out and checked them with a multimeter and they were ok but didn`t flash with the hazards  :( looks like its a battery then, might have a look on eurocarparts, they are doing a 57% off this weekend.I am not sure if it is a DIY job or if it will need coding, some opinions say it will and some say it wont  :(

E70 battery can be changed DIY but the battery needs to be paired to the car so the Intelligent Battery System (IBS) knows a new unit has been fitted and it then provides the correct charging profile.  It only takes 5-mins to do and can be done by a BMW Dealer or someone with the right software or even with a Carly App & Dongle.

Not pairing it can result in either over or undercharging, both of which will cause problems.

Thanks for that X5Sport,I don't have a problem fitting the battery but wasn't sure if it needed coding immediately or how long it could be left before getting it done,I would imagine the dealer would be expensive even for coding, although it might be worthwhile asking for a price for replacement and coding, you never know  ;)

They'll probably charge a minimum of 0.5hr.  If you are close enough to any members with Carly then they might do it for you.  Only takes 5 mins.  It won't kill a battery immediately, more like over months.

Just checked the battery and the post is stamped 36-08 so indeed would appear to be the original battery.

Nine years is pretty good going.  I expect mine to give up fairly soon, even with regular use of a conditioner.  :(

Will try and get a price from the dealers tomorrow but Eurocarparts are doing a 57% discount until tomorrow night so might just go with them.

I priced a battery from eurocarparts last week and although it says 57% off, its up to 57%.
Im sure the discount off the £350 battery was around £110 so still costing around £240.
This was for the Bosch AGM battery.

Phoned local dealers this morning and was quoted £208 for a battery and £77 to fit and register it so £285 all in.
What do you guys think?
