Map on Satnav Screen

Evening,
How do I get my satnav to display maps like the pic below? Is it just a change of setting, or as I more likely suspect a change of the nav software?
I have the same nav unit.

Turn perspective mode off? I'm assuming that's what you are asking? You can also change the range to suit, but I am assuming you knew that.

I don't have a map on screen at all, just an arrow pointing in the direction I should go.

Can't speek for the X5 , as mine had an aftermarket headunit, but my X3 has the MK4 satnav system, but a pop up screen so different controls.
Mine comes up with the arrow view, but if I press the right hand button, another menu appears and I go to map view, and the map appears. The one on screen is zoomed out to 50 miles, you can zoom into 150 yards to make it workable.
Some one will explain how to do it on your head unit I'm sure

Looks like its zoomed all the way out, trying to remember but I think it's in the options screen, normally its zoomed into 200 metres possibly?

The X5 Nav is the most complicated unit I've ever used!

Cannot help you with you question as my X5 did not come with a SatNav unit, but in recent days asked for help on what is the best option and almost all have suggested a aftermarket one,so this weekend Halfords are fitting a Garmin for me,must admit i am glad i did not go down the factory fitted option as they do seem complicated too setup and use.
I could of course be totally wrong as i have only just had my X5 over a month, but the simplicity from my old TomTom of just tapping in my destination post code all 10 seconds and then my home destination for the return trip

The Mk4 fitted to the E53 was not the best example of a Nav system! It could not even work with UK postcodes for many years.
Fitting an OEM one now would cost more than the car is worth!

It can be made to work with UK postcodes? How?

From memory I think you need the latest firmware version and OEM map disks from about 2008? The car was out of production by then, but I am almost certain that BMW fixed something as long as you had genuine V32 firmware. Use of non OEM messed things up - but may be fixed now.

To get to map from directions screen, push right hand knob, then, scroll down to map, push again. To zoom in or out, rotate the right knob.

The only legit way is to go and ask your Dealer nicely for the CD. Some will let you do it in their car park, others.....
You can get it on line however it has usually been modified to add extra POI like speed cameras but that affects the language pack and if you turn them off the language changes to French!
Postcodes do work anyway, just not the 7-digit version. You can enter them in the Town/City field.
It is worth checking which version you have anyway as it might have been done. Check under Menu > Settings and let us know what numbers are at the top right. If it says 4/2-00 then you have V32 already. That indicates firmware OS build 10.0 is loaded. Earlier versions confusingly have higher last numbers like 93 (OS Version 9.3). The 4 is for the DVD Nav (Mk4) and the /2 is for the colour screen.

I believe I have V32 firmware on a spare disk.
I bought a bloody expensive OEM disk from e-bay last year... and for some (marvelous) reason they sent me 2 disks sets..
Go halves on the cost for the spare disks + maps..
Or if you are close to the West Midlands, I will gladly upload it to your vehicle for you.
