Gearbox Solenoid Replacement

Folks, my 05 X5 has a nasty habit of doing the lurching forward when coming to a stop. You can adjust your driving style to combat it (brake late) so it doesnt bother me all the time. However I'm mindful that it may put any prospective buyers off when the time comes to change, despite it being a very common issue.

I was discussing it with the BMW specialist I use to do any work and he said the solenoids are at fault and he can replace them for £700. Judging by other reports online, this seems like a bit of a bargain. But I'm just curious if any other members on here have actually had the solenoids replaced, and has it cured the problem?

I cant decide whether to fork out the £ and have it running perfectly, or put up with it!

Excellent, thanks for that! I did search but hadnt noticed your topic.

How much did the solenoids and oil etc cost? From what I can gather the £700 I've been quoted including labour is pretty reasonable.

If your gearbox is the ZF 6HP26 it might pay to read this post from xoutpost. Some harsh shifting issues can be fixed with a software update. If your software version is the latest already, going down the solenoid or valve body replace / repair is the likely fix.
