Boot opening

My key fob won't open the boot.
Opens car fine.
Do I need new fob
Silver 55 plate 3.0 d sport 6 speed manual.x5
Grey 60 plate 3.0 m sport X5

Has it ever opened from the fob?
It can be coded off with Carly, so this may have been done if it has never worked.
Also, I've noticed that I need to unlock the car before it will open from the fob.
2010 E71 X6 40d. Pearl Silver Metallic.
