Hello newbie here!

Just saying hello to you all as I purchased an X6 59 plate with 57k on clock today which I pick up on Friday as it's having service and gearbox oil change before I collect. I've joined bimmers.com and said hello there and not a single answer so I have searched for x6 forums and have found you here and from what I have read so far you are a friendly bunch!  :D

I've been an Audi A5 driver for the past 3 years and could never quite understand the whole BMW thing and to be honest I was always like ugh a BMW. Was even like that when my husband brought the X6 home from work as a try before you buy kind of car. I was a seat cover in it for the most of yesterday until he finally would get from behind the wheel to let me have a go...... I didn't know what his big grin was about until I got behind that shell myself and wow! Now I know what all the fuss is over BMW's! Lol!

I need a 4x4 to get to the stables and back and to maybe tow my trailer. Although my husband has an RRS that we use for towing and I think his thinking is that this car is for best.... I did look at Audi Quattro but not seen anything that grabbed me so the X6 was like yeah I like, it's big and my mother will be able to get in and out of it without me having to push or lift her out!  :)). It is my car but my husband is now like it's 'our' car and what he is having done to it! Lol! It's already booked into body shop/tint place to have the BMW dark pack doing! I will be the only one at our stables with a pimped 4x4!  :))

Any tips or advice on what's good to upgrade/change then that'd be great! First job is the yellow halo lights! That was a bit of a shock that BMW have yellow lights! It also doesn't have electric folding mirrors despite having everything else electric! I'm like 'you mean I have to fold them in manually? WT....?' Lol!

Hello and :hi:

What spec is on the car?  If you have the last 7 characters of the VIN you can get the build spec to see what it left the factory with.

A lot of the updates need expert coding or licence keys from BMW which can be hard (and expensive) to get hold of.

Realoem will tell you what retrofits are available for your specific model.

Changing the angel eyes to white can be done easily using MTEC H8 HID lookalikes.  LED equivalents simply don't do the job and can be very expensive.  Folding mirrors were a cost option (as are most options on BMWs) and often left off the order.

Thanks for the welcome  :D. I'm just having a good read of all the threads and info. Am I right in that the X6 is basically the X5 but with different body shell on?

The vin number 7 characters are LK65411. I've tried to get onto realoem.com and put numbers in but it didn't bring anything up. Either I've put wrong numbers in or not in right place. It's got quite a few extras but not sure if they are standard or not? My Audi is fully loaded and it has the same if not more than the Audi.....just not the electric folding mirrors so it's back to manually pulling them in! Lol!

First job is the H8 lights and decided on the MTEC ones from HID's Direct. Next is the dark pack for dechroming everything apart from the side step.

Where is the best place for insurance? Is there a better company to go with?

That VIN brings up an X6 35d made in Sept '09.  Use the 'Serial Number' box  :)

And the spec has most options too.  Rain sensor/auto lights missed along with auto fold and dimming mirrors.

Can't see the phone prep (Bluetooth) listed either.  Looks like a Dealer car originally....they missed a lot of useful stuff off.  It might be part of a Nav pack and telematics - both of which are there.

Thanks do the links. Getting confused where the list of items included in the vehicle is listed on realoem.com? I get a,list of items I can add as extras. The car has Bluetooth phone prep as husband already paired his phone. It also has auto lights and rain sensor as I found the buttons and it woks as they came on under a train tunnel and the heads up came on hen went off after we came out of the tunnel? The mirrors are also dimming too just not folding?

I have been on the link Horizon has added. thank you Horizon and hello  :D. Lots of items listed here as I've seen on the car so are these hemitems it does have as I put the full vin number in here and I brought up my car?

Realoem is the parts database - well a copy of it - from the US.  It is current, and frequently ahead of UK BMW dealer versions!  You need to check sections for retrofits as upgrading options through 'official' channels is almost impossible without a retrofit kit being available.

It doesn't bring up your actual car, just the correct model.  The VIN decoder link however should bring up your specific car's build sheet, though by the sounds of it that one is incomplete or options get rolled into one another - just to make life harder!

Thanks for all the info. Been a busy day sorting insurance out with quotes varying from the extreme to the ridiculous!

Is it worth getting a tracker fitted and if so which one?
