Yes its that good old tyre debate again....
Can anybody tell me what makes do the "star" marked tyres come in.?? In NON RFT tyres.?
Ive looked at the sidewall of the Bridgestone RFT tyres and they have a small star on them.
Just quite what does the "star" marking signify.? Or is it a BMW "tax"....
Thanks.

Realoem will tell you what BMW are using.
The '*' is I think to indicate that for a staggered wheel setup the rolling radii are matched within BMWs tolerance limits. Mercury and Audi have similar options.

Thanks X5Sport.
Any idea what the BMW tolerance limits might be, ie the % difference in rolling radius, front to back.
Ive measured the RR of the tyres i currently have [BRAND new ones].
Itd be good to know if they are within tolerance.
Thanks...

Hi Nine468
Just to throw my hat in the ring, I apologise for high jacking your post.
I don't have a staggered set up on mine, both axles wearing 255 x 55 x 18. Does this mean I don't need star marked.
Thanks
Steve

No you don't need star marked tyres, just 4
Identical tyres, ine replaced my staggered set up on my X3 with 4 identical tyres and my problems
Went away, luckily the rims are Only 1/2" thinner on the front so could take the same size as the back tyres.

Probably less than 3mm, but I'm guessing. Owners have found 30mm in the circumference enough to cause nasty noises which lead to broken bits if ignored.

Thanks for that Horizon, I'd always thought as much.
I'm going over to none R/Fs soon. I still intend to use a quality tyre, probably a Mitchi or Conti. I'm hoping for an much improved ride. over the R/Fs.
